By downloading, installing, or using PaceBuddy ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
These terms apply to all versions of PaceBuddy on iOS.
PaceBuddy is a productivity and planning app. It provides a Pomodoro-style focus timer, AI-generated session recaps, companion characters, restorative break experiences, and planning tools designed to help you work at a sustainable pace.
PaceBuddy is not a medical device, health service, or therapeutic tool. It is a productivity application. Nothing in the app — including companion modes designed for chronic illness or neurodivergent users — constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions.
You must create an account to use PaceBuddy. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You may not share your account or transfer it to another person.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we discover an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
PaceBuddy offers in-app purchases including the Founder's Pack and other content ("purchases"). Each purchase unlocks specific app behavior or content. Descriptions in the store explain what each item does.
All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. Apple's payment terms and refund policies apply.
Refund requests must go through Apple. We cannot process refunds directly. To request a refund: go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
Purchases are tied to your Apple ID and PaceBuddy account. They cannot be transferred to another account.
The Founder's Pack is a special bundle that includes the Vex companion, the Aquarium break biome, 500 starting gems, a Founder badge, and future Founder-tier drops for 12 months from the date of purchase. Future drops are defined at our discretion and are not guaranteed to include any specific content. The 12-month eligibility period is calculated from purchase date.
PaceBuddy includes a coin economy used for power features such as plan replans and scenario planning. Coins are earned through completed focus sessions. Coins have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for refunds, and cannot be transferred between accounts. Coins may expire after extended periods of inactivity.
We may change prices at any time. Changes do not affect purchases you have already made.
PaceBuddy uses AI to generate session recaps, planning suggestions, and companion dialogue. This content is generated automatically and may not always be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your situation. Use your own judgment.
You may add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key in Settings. Your key is stored on your device only and is sent to our backend as a single-use header for the duration of one AI request. Your key is your account with that provider — we never see their billing or usage data. You are responsible for any usage charges from your AI provider.
Companion modes designed for POTS, ME/CFS, ADHD, autism, chronic pain, and other conditions are planning and pacing tools — not medical tools. They do not diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical advice. Always follow guidance from your healthcare provider.
We design companions to be supportive, non-shaming, and capacity-aware. If a companion generates content that feels inappropriate or harmful, please report it to support@pace-buddy.com.
Your companion may learn patterns from your sessions over time. You can view, edit, and delete stored patterns from within the app at any time.
You may use PaceBuddy for personal productivity. You may not:

You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app without written permission.
PaceBuddy is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose. We are not responsible for data loss due to technical failures.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ted Gordon is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to lost data, lost productivity, or health-related outcomes.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
PaceBuddy includes features designed to help users manage energy, pacing, and cognitive load. These features are based on general productivity and self-care principles.
We are not medical professionals. The app does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for professional medical care. If you experience a medical emergency, contact emergency services immediately. If you have questions about managing a health condition, consult a qualified healthcare provider.
Users with POTS, ME/CFS, Long COVID, chronic pain, ADHD, autism, or other conditions should use the app in a way that feels safe for them. The app's planning suggestions are guidance, not prescriptions. You know your body and your limits better than any app does.
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after that date means you accept the new terms.
You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Purchases you have made will not be refunded upon termination for cause.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of residence of the developer. Any disputes will be resolved in courts of competent jurisdiction in that state, unless you and we agree otherwise.
